Instead of an epigraph The message, that a photo carries, releases through form, color, light. It is important not to confuse a causal relationship: the spark of life in the photo does not light up from a good composition, light, etc. - these are primarily the language of narration. In artistic photography, there is always a state and worldview of the author.
Creative and artistic photography Creativity is a process in which every person feels the need for self-realization. The subject matter of the narrative is not as important as the moment of creation itself. Photography is one of the convenient ways to fulfill this need. A work of art is the result created in the same creative way, but: • Motivates other people to create; • Helps the author / viewer to know themselves better, to unleash creativity; • Tells the story of the author, raises a problem, a question and receives a response from the viewer.
Author = Viewer For an objective assessment of his work, creator needs to abstract as much as possible from authorship and look from the outside. Evaluate only what is in the frame. The content should evoke sensations, not images and memories of the shooting process. A good photographer should be a sensitive spectator. Therefore, to cultivate the viewer is so important. Develop the quality of the viewer one can in the following ways: • Contemplation of nature, works of art (painting, theater, literature, sculpture, cinema, music, architecture) • Development of observation, figurative thinking, compassion • Expanding outlook, curiosity
Real feelings • In simple words, the photo should “stick”. Cause a feeling, an inner emotion; empathy, compassion. This is the main criterion of photography as a work of art. • Be honest with yourself. Don`t confuse with the well-established reaction of society to the human tragedy, or vice versa, a joy, that does not always cause feelings in the viewer at the internal level. The concept of compassion or empathy is often included. • The illusory scene, “literary work” can cause the same strong feelings in the viewer as a real event. • As the author of a photo, you do not need to fall for the trigger of memories: it is possible to evaluate the image, the memories, and not the photo itself.
Photographicity Photographicity is the distinguishing feature of photography from painting. The photo is stronger when it is more reliable. Painting, literature are the default interpretation of the author, the photo is a moment that passed. Faith in it weakens, if something clearly discovers an intervention. Here are the basics of photography naturalness: • Unintended reality; • Accident, inadvertently, caught moment; • Feeling of incompleteness; • Semantic ambiguity.
Harmony Harmony is what can be called objective beauty. Evaluation of the objects of shooting is always more subjective than assessment of the ratio of color, tone, lines, composition in the frame. A harmonious combination consists in proportions of one to another, sprouting from nature, are found in all areas of human activity (science, painting, music, photography, etc.). “Artistic processing” is the same harmonization of tonalities, colors, their ordering into a common symphony.
